HRET has successfully completed this project. We worked with the six consortium hospitals and health systems and our National Advisory Panel members in developing the framework.

In order to understand the current state of race/ethnicity and primary language data collection in hospitals and to disseminate our findings HRET has:

• Completed site visits to the six consortium sites.
• Designed and fielded a survey to one-thousand hospitals.
• Included two questions on the 2003 AHA Annual Survey about the collection of race/ethnicity and primary language data;
• Completed a report synthesizing its findings to date, "Who, When and How: The Current State of Race, Ethnicity and Primary Language Data Collection in Hospitals" (Commonwealth Fund, May 2004) [Read the press release]
• Completed a paper focusing on the results of the survey, which is currently under consideration at Health Affairs.
• Completed a "Summary Report of the National Advisory Panel" from the November 5, 2003 meeting.
• Presented its findings, to date, at national conferences.
