Biography: Samuel J. Daniel

 
Samuel J. Daniel, M.D. is the President and Chief Executive Officer of North General Hospital.  Prior to this appointment, he was the Medical Director and Director of the Department of Medicine at North General Hospital.  He was the former Program Director of the North General Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program and the Hospital’s Chief of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Daniel holds the academic position of Associate Clinical Professor at Mount Sinai School of Medicine.  He received his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.  He completed his Internship, Residency and Fellowship in Gastroenterology at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital.

Dr. Daniel is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. In 1989, he became a Fellow in the American College of Gastroenterology and a Fellow in the American College of Physicians in 1994.

Dr. Daniel is a member of the Associates Advisory Council of the American College of Physicians, Member of the Board of Directors of: Boy Scouts of America, Primary Care Development Corporation, League of Voluntary Hospitals and Homes, a  Member of the Board of Governors Greater New York Hospital Association, Member of the Professional Advisory Committee of New Horizons Scholars Program, a Member of the Selection Committee for the Lewis and Jack Rudin New York Memorial Prize in Medical Science,  Fellow New York Academy of Medicine, Member of the Board of Trustees of Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) and Member of the Heritage Affiliate American Heart Association Board of Trustees-New York City Chapter.  He is the former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Community Health Alliance of North General, a Physician Hospital Organization, a former Member of the Greater New York Regional Board of Directors of the National Conference for Community and Justice and a past Member of the Advisory Board of Upper Manhattan Physicians Against Cancer. 

Dr. Daniel was recognized as one of New York’s Best Physicians in the New York Magazine “The Best Doctors in New York” 2000 edition.  Network Journal and Black Enterprise Magazine cited him among the nation’s Best Physicians in 2001.  He is the recipient of the 2002 Leon Bogues Award for Commitment to Social Reform by the Black and Latino Legislative Caucus and the Good Scout Award presented by the Boy Scouts of America on June 27, 2002.

Dr. Daniel’s area of interest in medical research is the treatment of Chronic Hepatitis C.  He is the Principal Investigator in several clinical trials studying this disease and has contributed to medical literature with articles and a book on the topic.
