Biography: Rita Battles

 
Continuum Health Partners announced the appointment of Rita Battles as President and Chief Executive Officer of Long Island College Hospital.  She was appointed to this critically important position after an exhaustive, national search conducted by a committee of Regents, Trustees and clinical and administrative leadership.

Most recently, Ms. Battles served as President of the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center (UMMMC) –University Campus, in Worcester. There she oversaw significant growth and revitalization of services, and directed an operational turnaround, reversing multi-year operating losses.  She also led the redesign of patient access systems for the operating rooms, intensive care units, emergency department and ambulatory services.  Under her leadership, UMMMC also greatly expanded its medical staff and launched a $150 million renovation and construction initiative.

Ms. Battles has also served as interim president and CEO of Worcester Medical Center-St. Vincent’s Hospital, where she implemented a service excellence program, achieving the highest score in patient satisfaction among 117 Tenet Healthcare hospitals.

Other positions Ms. Battles has held in the health care arena include Chief Operating Officer of Metro West Medical Center in Massachusetts, Administrative Director for Clinical Services for New England Medical Center, and Associate Hospital Director for Boston City Hospital.

An alumnus of Boston College, Ms. Battles earned a Masters degree in Business Administration from Suffolk University.  She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
