Learning Labs - Palo Alto VA Health Care System

The VA Palo Alto Health Care System established its Hospice and Palliative Care Center in 1979. It was one of the first publicly funded hospices in the U.S. Today, their services include an inpatient unit, a consult team, and an outpatient clinic. In addition, the Center has incorporated its palliative care services into the VA home care program and also has palliative care admissions for non-veterans.  Core staff include three physicians, nurses, a social worker, psychologist, chaplain/volunteer coordinator, pharmacist, and occupational and massage therapists. The Center participates in extensive research and outreach opportunities.
