National Organizations Working Toward Elimination
Description of Partner Organizations
Through the CDC-funded cooperative agreement, HRET joined forces with a strong team of national partners, working together toward the elimination of perinatal HIV transmission in the United States. Brief summaries of the organizations, along with their project goals for the future, are outlined below.
American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists (ACOG)
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) is a membership organization dedicated to the advancement of women's health through education, practice, research and advocacy. ACOG works in four areas: (1) serving as a strong advocate for quality health care for women, (2) maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice and continuing education for its members, (3) promoting patient education and stimulating patient understanding of and involvement in medical care, and (4) increasing awareness among its members and the public of the changing issues facing women’s health care.
Association of Maternal & Child Health Programs (AMCHP)
The Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs represents state public health leaders and others working to improve the health and well being of women, children, youth, and families, including those with special health care needs. AMCHP accomplishes its mission through the active participation of its members and vital partnerships with government agencies, families and advocates, health care purchasers and providers, academic and research professionals, and others at the national, state and local levels.
CityMatCH
CityMatCH is a freestanding national membership organization of city and county health departments' maternal and child health (MCH) programs and leaders representing urban communities in the United States. The mission of CityMatCH is to improve the health and well-being of urban women, children and families by strengthening the public health organizations and leaders in their communities.
Francois-Xavier Bagnoud Center (FXBC) at UMDNJ
The Francois-Xavier Bagnoud Center at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey is dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable families including those families infected and affected by HIV infection. FXBC reaches across traditional boundaries to expand expertise in research and global health while continuing to link research and practice through education. The center provides clinical care, education, and conducts research. The mission of the FXBC is to expand health and supportive services that improve the quality of life for children and families with chronic illness including HIV infection in the United States and globally.
