An Executive Checklist in H&HN
By Peter J. Pronovost, M.D., John Combes, M.D., and Maulik Joshi

Intensive care unit teams from the three states in cohort one (Colorado, North Carolina, and Washington) participated in weekly immersion calls in April and May to become oriented with logistics of the project and the concepts to be applied. In June, ICUs began to take part in monthly coaching calls with project faculty from the Michigan Health & Hospital Association Keystone Center for Patient Safety & Quality.

Participating ICUs in cohort one are reviewing the project's toolkits and manuals on eliminating Central Line Associated Blood Stream Infections (CLABSI), and on the Comprehensive Unit-Based Safety Program (CUSP). These manuals provide the basis for all project activities and data collection.

Representatives from the cohort one state hospital associations have collectively recruited more than 70 hospitals to participate in this groundbreaking project. Cohort one state associations are also hosting in-person workshops for their ICU teams in June (North Carolina), July (Washington), and August (Colorado).

Cohort two states (Florida, Massachusetts, Ohio, and Pennsylvania) are participating in immersion calls in July and August and will hold in-person workshops in September and October.
