HRET's ACTION Network is a multi-organizational research network committed to seeking federal task order contracts through the Accelerating Change and Transformation in Organizations and Networks (ACTION) program of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). The network includes health systems, hospitals, health plans and academic partners. ACTION is a five-year program that awards research task order contracts to selected networks to produce quick turnaround, action-oriented research projects and evidence-based tools that will assist health system leaders in making critical operational decisions and managing organizational change. ACTION convenes research partners from diverse sectors and is unique in its capacity to translate findings of health care management research into operational practice.
HRET is currently conducting six studies through AHRQ's ACTION initiative.
National Implementation of the Comprehensive Unit-Based Safety Program (CUSP) to Reduce Central Line Associated Blood Stream Infections (CLABSI) in the Intensive Care Unit
In partnership with the Johns Hopkins University Quality and Safety Research Group and the Michigan Health & Hospital Association Keystone Center for Patient Safety and Quality, this project will implement in over 100 hospitals in 10 states a program proven to drastically reduce central line-associated blood stream infections (CLABSI) in ICUs. Learn more.
A Practical Model to Transform Childhood Asthma Care
This project in partnership with the Child Health Institute of the University of Washington is implementing an evidence-based intervention to improve methods of asthma treatment in pediatric practices. Learn more.
Improving Quality through Health Information Technology
HRET, Northwestern University, and the Alliance of Chicago Community Health Services are assessing how the use of health information technology can improve care delivery and outcomes with a cost analysis in community health centers. Learn more.
Improving Patient Flow and Reducing Emergency Department Crowding
HRET will evaluate strategies for improving patient flow and reducing emergency department (ED) overcrowding, advance the development of quality measurement in 6 hospital EDs, and promote the spread of promising practices to a wide audience. Learn more.
Promoting Safety and Quality through Human Resource Practices
This project in partnership with The Ohio State University, Rush University Medical Center, HRET and the AHA's American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration (ASHHRA) will examine the link between human resource practices and quality and safety in health care. Learn more.
Reducing Hospital-Associated Infections
In collaboration with the Michigan Health & Hospital Association Keystone Center for Patient Safety & Quality and four Michigan hospitals, HRET is evaluating the effectiveness of three evidence-based AHRQ tools to reduce hospital-associated infections. Learn more.
HRET recently completed an ACTION project on rapid HIV testing.
Multi-Site Evaluation of Rapid HIV Testing in Emergency Departments
This project evaluated the ability of emergency departments to quickly identify patients with undiagnosed HIV and link them to care. The project looked at the costs associated with implementing and sustaining ED-based HIV testing programs and the available resources to cover those costs.
