Senior Director, Special Projects
Deborah is working on projects related to the elimination of health disparities, the role of hospitals in health promotion and disease prevention, community benefit program development, current quality improvement practices in U.S. hospitals, and healthcare governance practices. She has worked on multiple grants and educational programs in the areas of quality of care, patient safety, community and population health, governance, and end of life care.
Deborah speaks frequently on these topics and is the contributing author to a number of books, including Medicine and Health Care Into the 21st Century, The Physician Leaders’ Guide, Health Care Quality for the 21st Century, Guide to the Use and Interpretation of Quality of Care Data, and editor of Quantitative Methods in Quality Assessment and Metodos cuantitativos en la gestion de la calidad: una guia practica, in addition to articles on quality of care and governance. Prior to coming to HRET in 1990, she ran a division in AHA for four years focused on quality improvement, risk management, infection control, and ICD-9-CM coding. From 1981-1986, Deborah held positions at Mount Sinai and Beth Israel Medical Centers in New York, and San Francisco General. Deborah has B.A. and M.P.H. degrees from the University of California-Berkeley.
