Lawrence Prybil is professor of health management and senior advisor to the dean of the University of Iowa (UI) College of Public Health. Prybil’s recent research has focused on governance of high performing hospitals. He also is well known for his work in healthcare ethics and the organization and management of multi-unit healthcare systems. With his appointment as an HRET Senior Fellow, Prybil continues his governance research and advises HRET on other studies and health policy issues.

Before joining the UI faculty in 1999, Prybil spent 15 years with the Daughters of Charity National Health System, including 10 years as CEO of a six-state division. Previously, Prybil was vice president for administration for the Sisters of Mercy Health Corporation and was a faculty member at the Medical College of Virginia - Virginia Commonwealth University for 10 years, where he chaired the department of health administration and served as deputy assistant provost for the health sciences campus. Prybil currently serves as vice chairman of the board of the Sisters of Charity Health System - Leavenworth and as a member of the Catholic Healthcare Audit Network’s board of managers. He received his Ph.D. in hospital and health services administration from the UI.
