The Edwin L. Crosby Memorial Fund

Created in 1972, the Crosby Fellowship is a continuing tribute to Dr. Edwin L. Crosby, president of the AHA for 18 years and a leader in moving the association into the arenas of national and international health affairs.

Among other things, Dr. Crosby was instrumental in transforming HRET into the stand-alone, independent-minded research entity it is today. The award is given to an experienced health care researcher, administrator or policy analyst to conduct research in a key area of health policy.

For example, Crosby Fellowship awards have financed research on hospital-physician relations, youth pregnancy issues and health services management. HRET recently awarded a Crosby Fellowship to Linda Emanuel, who will continue her work on the Patient Safety Education Project (PSEP), a high-impact, conference-based, train-the-trainer approach based on an end-of-life care project
