Janet M. Corrigan, Ph.D.

Janet M. Corrigan, Ph.D., is President and CEO of The National Quality Forum, a private, not-for-profit membership organization established in 1999 to develop and implement a national strategy for healthcare quality measurement and reporting.  The NQF mission includes: setting national priorities and goals for performance improvement; endorsing national consensus standards for measuring and publicly reporting on performance; and promoting the attainment of national goals through education and outreach activities.  Dr. Corrigan was instrumental in organizing the merger between NQF and the National Committee for Quality Health Care (NCQHC), where she served as President and CEO from June 2005 to March 2006.

Prior to joining NCQHC, Dr. Corrigan was Senior Board Director at the Institute of Medicine (IOM), where she was responsible for the IOM Health Care Services portfolio of initiatives on quality and safety, health services organization and financing, and health insurance issues. She provided leadership for IOM’s Quality Chasm Series which produced ten reports during her tenure including: To Err is Human: Building a Safer Health System and Crossing the Quality Chasm: A New Health System for the 21st Century.  Prior to joining IOM in 1998, Dr. Corrigan was Executive Director of the President’s Advisory Commission on Consumer Protection and Quality in the Health Care Industry.

Dr. Corrigan received her doctorate in health services research and master of industrial engineering degrees from the University of Michigan, and masters’ degrees in business administration and community health from the University of Rochester.  In 2002, she was the recipient of the Institute of Medicine Cecil Award for Distinguished Service, and in 2006, appointed a Fellow in the American College of Medical Informatics.   Dr. Corrigan serves on numerous boards and committees including: Quality Alliance Steering Committee (2006 – present); Hospital Quality Alliance (2006 – present), National Center for Healthcare Leadership (2003 – present), Council for Accountable Physician Practices Advisory Council (2004 – present), Health Care Solutions Group Advisory Board (2005 – ), and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Regional Market Project Advisory Council (2006 – ).
